NMDU Members, Family, Friends and Newspaper and Magazine companies It's a sad time for all of us.
James DeMarzo, President of The Newspaper and Mail Deliverers Union passed away unexpectedly this past Wednesday February 29. He apparently suffered a heart attack while working late in his office as he often did. Mr. DeMarzo, known by all that knew him as " Jimmy D " started his career as a delivery driver for a newspaper distribution company and later at The Daily News. He was elected to The Unions Executive Council which was the beginning of a twenty year career as an elected union official serving as Business Agent, Assistant Secretary Treasurer / Vice - president and President. He was known as a compassionate man, with a no-nonsense approach to negotiations. Mr. DeMarzo was never defeated in an election and was respected by those he represented and those he opposed at the bargaining table. Sadness and shock has reverberated throughout the newspaper industry. He was loved by many and will be missed. The wake is as follows: Sunday & Monday hours are 2-4 & 7-9. The address is Bryant Funeral home, 411 Old Town Road, Setauket, Long Island 11733. Telphone (631)473-0082
